Can you use Revolut for Pix in Brazil?
What your Revolut account can do in Brazil, what to check before you travel and how to prepare for a counter that only takes Pix or cash.
In this article
Revolut documents Pix QR payments for its Brazilian BRL accounts. For an account opened abroad, we could not confirm merchant Pix QR access from the public pages checked. Your Revolut card can still pay in reais where cards are accepted. Check for the specific Pix QR feature in your app before relying on it for your trip. Revolut's Pix payment instructions, supported card currencies.
If your account cannot pay those codes, Tucu is being built for that part of your trip: paying supported merchant Pix QR codes as a visitor, with the rate, fees and total shown before you confirm. Tucu has not launched yet. If you are planning ahead, join the waiting list for early-access invitations.
Below, we explain what to check in Revolut, when a transfer to a seller's Pix key can help and which fees matter. For the wider picture, see our guide to Pix for tourists in Brazil.
What your Revolut account can do
Start with where your account is registered. Visiting Brazil does not by itself give you its Brazilian features. These are the account types covered by our source check on 23 September 2026.
| What you want to do | Brazilian account with a BRL balance | UK or German account |
|---|---|---|
| Hold Brazilian reais | Yes | BRL is not on either country's supported holding list |
| Scan a merchant's Pix QR | Documented inside the Pix section | Not confirmed in the sources checked |
| Paste a Pix Copia e Cola code | Documented inside the Pix section | Not confirmed in the sources checked |
| Send to a Pix key | Yes | UK: advertised, but confirm availability in your app. Germany: not verified here |
| Pay in reais by card | Yes, where the card is accepted | Yes, where the card is accepted, with conversion when needed |

“Not confirmed” means the sources did not establish access, not that we tested the feature and it failed. Account rules in other countries may differ.
Why a QR scanner does not settle the question
Revolut's Brazilian instructions put Scan QR under Home → Pix, alongside a separate option for pasting a Pix payment code. Look for explicit support for a Brazilian merchant's Pix QR when checking your account.
Revolut Pay has QR codes too, but they belong to Revolut's own checkout service. Being able to scan one does not establish that your account can pay a Pix code. How Revolut Pay works.
Can you send money to a Pix key from abroad?
Revolut advertises international transfers to Pix keys, but its UK pages disagree. Its UK Pix transfer page describes the service, while the UK list of outgoing transfer currencies omits BRL. Confirm availability in your own account.
Before offering this option to a seller, check that you can select a Pix-key recipient and get a quote showing the reais they receive, your total cost and the estimated arrival time.
If the seller agrees, confirm the recipient's name before sending and let them verify arrival. A submitted transfer is not proof that the shop has received its money.
A Pix key is not a Pix Copia e Cola code
A key identifies a recipient. A Copia e Cola code contains the payment information represented by a QR. Paste it into a payment-code feature, not a recipient's key field. Banco Central's Pix initiation manual, section 3.1.
QR payments can also carry an identifier that matches the money to your bill. A separate transfer may reach the restaurant's account while its till still waits for that particular payment. This matters for dynamic codes and can matter for static codes too, so a printed code does not guarantee that a key transfer will complete the checkout. Banco Central's manual, sections 2.4 and 2.6.2.
This is the checkout Tucu is being built around: scan a supported merchant Pix code, review the recipient, rate, fees and total, then confirm. Paying through the merchant's QR checkout avoids having to ask for a separate Pix key and arrange for staff to match a transfer to your bill. You can keep using your travel card where it works and use Tucu for supported local QR payments once it launches.
Using your Revolut card in Brazil
Revolut supports card spending in reais without a BRL balance, converting when you pay. That remains useful wherever your card is accepted.
At a card terminal, ask to pay in Brazilian reais. If the terminal offers pounds, euros or dollars instead, that is dynamic currency conversion, with a rate set by the merchant's payment provider. Visa says the offer should disclose its exchange rate and any extra fees, and you can decline it. Visa's guide to dynamic currency conversion.
If a seller takes only Pix or cash, your card cannot help at that counter. If they offer a lower price for Pix, ask which price applies to your payment method before paying.
Can you exchange into reais before the weekend?
UK and German accounts do not list BRL as a currency you can hold. Exchanging into a reais balance on Friday is therefore not an option for those accounts. Conversion when you pay can incur your plan's weekend fee.
What Revolut costs in Brazil
Check the exchange rate and fees together. Domestic Pix being free does not make an international transfer or a foreign-currency card purchase free.
Card conversion: two country examples
These Standard-plan examples were checked on 23 September 2026. The percentages are additional exchange fees, separate from the exchange rate.
| Account and plan | Weekday exchange allowance | Fee on exchange above that allowance | Weekend exchange fee |
|---|---|---|---|
| UK Standard | £1,000 per rolling month | 1% | 1% |
| Germany Standard | €1,000 per month | 0.5% | 1% |
Sources: UK exchange fees and German exchange fees. Their weekend window is Friday 17:00 to Sunday 18:00 Eastern Time. Other plans and account countries differ; check your allowance and reset date in the app.
Revolut sets variable exchange rates and provides the conversion breakdown for card payments after the transaction. Check the amount deducted against the reais on your receipt. How Revolut sets exchange rates.
Pix transfers and cash withdrawals
For a Pix-key transfer, read your account's quote for both exchange and transfer charges before sending.
For cash, UK Standard includes £200 or five withdrawals per rolling month, whichever comes first, without a Revolut withdrawal fee. Beyond that, it charges 2% with a £1 minimum. Conversion and ATM-owner fees can also apply. UK cash withdrawal fees.
A lower price for paying by Pix can be outweighed by exchange and funding costs. Tucu is being built to show the rate, payment fees and total before you confirm, so you can decide whether the merchant's Pix price makes sense for you. Our guide to comparing Pix and card costs explains what to include.
What to arrange before your trip
Prepare for the payment methods you will need:
- For card purchases: check your plan's exchange allowance and weekend fees, and pay in reais at the terminal.
- For a Pix-key transfer: establish that the option exists in your account before offering it to a seller. Read the quote and arrival estimate.
- For merchant QR payments: confirm explicit Pix QR support. If your account lacks it, arrange another way to pay before relying on a QR-only checkout.
- For a seller you cannot pay electronically: keep a cash fallback, allowing for your withdrawal fees.

Frequently asked questions
Can I scan a Pix QR code with a UK Revolut account?
UK access was not established by the public documentation checked. Confirm that your own account supports merchant Pix QR payments before relying on it.
Does Revolut work in Brazil without holding reais?
Yes, for card payments where your card is accepted. Revolut supports spending in reais and converts when you pay if you do not hold the currency.
Is sending to a Pix key the same as paying the shop's QR?
No. It sends money to the recipient, but may not carry the details the shop needs to match it to your bill. Only use it as an alternative if the seller agrees and can confirm receipt.
Is Pix free with Revolut?
Revolut's Brazilian help says it does not charge for sending or receiving domestic Pix. An international transfer can involve exchange and transfer charges. Look at the total your own account quotes, not a domestic fee statement.
Does a paid Revolut plan unlock Pix QR payments abroad?
A plan's exchange-fee benefits do not establish Pix QR eligibility. Confirm the payment feature separately before upgrading for this purpose.

Tucu: prepare for the Pix code at the counter
If Revolut covers your card spending but your account cannot pay a merchant's Pix QR, you need another way to pay that code. That is where Tucu is designed to fit into your trip.
Tucu is being built as one travel wallet for Pix in Brazil and local QR payments in Argentina:
- Prepare before you travel. Set up your wallet from home and add money before you need to pay.
- Pay the merchant's code. Scan a supported Pix QR at a stall or till, without arranging a separate transfer to a key.
- Know the total before confirming. Review the recipient, exchange rate and payment fees, including when a seller offers a Pix price.
- Keep the same wallet in Argentina. Use it for supported local merchant QR payments on the next leg of your trip.
